The TEARS Foundation Kenya operates a Center for Child Loss in Nairobi, dedicated to supporting bereaved families with compassion and care. The Center provides monthly support groups and one-on-one sessions for those grieving the loss of an adult child, pregnancy, or infant, as well as families experiencing pregnancy after loss. All of our programs are volunteer-led and rely entirely on the generosity of your donations. These initiatives aim to foster healing, restore hope, reduce isolation, and improve grief literacy within our communities. Currently, services are offered in person in Nairobi and in a hybrid format in Kisumu. As we continue to grow, we are working to expand our reach to other counties within the country—ensuring that more families have access to vital support during their most difficult times. We invite you to support our mission and expansion through donations, partnerships, or volunteering, and help us bring hope and healing to grieving families across Kenya.

Our Yearly Programs are as follows:

  • Tea & Connect:  Held every October during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, TEA & Connect is a meaningful gathering that brings together healthcare professionals and advocates for open, roundtable conversations. This event creates space to raise awareness about the importance of supporting bereaved families and preventing perinatal loss. It also serves as a platform to advocate for improved bereavement care, policy changes, increased resources, and reduced stillbirth rates, ensuring that the voices of grieving families are heard and valued within healthcare systems.
  • Exercise & Exhale:   Grief is more than emotional — it’s a full-body experience.

This program encourages grieving parents to care for their physical well-being as part of the healing journey. Grief can show up in the body as fatigue, pain, weakened immunity, or physical tension. Through gentle movement and mindful breathing, Exercise and Exhale offers a space to release, restore, and reconnect with the body during a time of deep loss.

  • Acts Of Kindness:  Grief can feel heavy and isolating, but kindness has the power to gently shift that weight—offering moments of connection, purpose, and healing. The Acts of Kindness program invites bereaved parents to channel their love and loss into meaningful action by giving back to others. Throughout the year, families are encouraged to explore small and large acts of compassion—whether it’s writing a thoughtful note, helping a neighbor, or supporting a community need. At the end of the program in December, parents come together to collectively donate toward a cause of their choice. This culminating gesture becomes more than charity—it’s a way to honor their children’s memory with love, to express gratitude, and to bring hope to others. These acts become part of the healing journey—a reminder that even in pain, we can choose to be a light. Through giving, families discover that helping someone else can also be a gift to themselves.
  • Retreat & Reflect:  At the close of each program cycle, Retreat and Reflect offers families a sacred pause—a quiet, intentional space away from daily routines to rest, reconnect, and reflect. This retreat invites participants to slow down, breathe deeply, and explore the emotional and spiritual journey of grief. Through guided reflection, nature walks, journaling, and peaceful silence, families have the opportunity to recognize their personal growth, honor their loved ones, and make space for healing. It’s a time to sit with life’s big questions, embrace vulnerability, and begin rebuilding resilience. In this stillness, many find clarity, strength, and a deeper sense of purpose.
  • Share and Support:  Held on the last Friday of each month, Share and Support is a core grief support gathering offered by The TEARS Foundation Kenya. These monthly sessions provide a safe, compassionate space where bereaved parents and families can come together to explore specific grief-related topics through guided discussions and shared experiences. More than just a meeting, Share and Support is a dynamic, year-round program that nurtures healing, reduces isolation, and fosters meaningful connections within the community. It is entirely volunteer-led and sustained by generous donations from those who believe in our mission. The program also includes a variety of sub-programs and events, tailored to the unique needs of different family members and stages of the grief journey.

A Safe Space for Healing, Connection, and Community.

Held on the last Friday of each month, our support group is a compassionate grief support gathering by The TEARS Foundation Kenya. Families come together to explore key topics in their grief journey—finding understanding, healing, and hope.

Each month features a themed session that helps participants better understand and navigate their grief. Topics may include anniversaries, identity after loss, handling difficult emotions, and rebuilding relationships.

A dedicated space for fathers to connect, share, and find support through the experience of child loss. This peer-to-peer group fosters meaningful connection through virtual monthly meetups and special events, helping to normalize men’s grief and break the silence that often surrounds male mourning. Through open dialogue and shared experiences, grieving dads find strength, understanding, and healing together.

Children, teens, and young adults feel the pain of losing a sibling deeply—even if they can’t always express it. This program provides a safe, supportive space led by a Certified Child Life Specialist, using play and creative expression to help them process grief in ways they understand. Through connection with peers and engaging activities, they learn that their feelings are valid, healing is possible, and they are not alone.

Grief can deeply impact our spiritual well-being, even when we don’t talk about it. This space offers a nonjudgmental environment to explore questions of faith, purpose, and healing. Whether you’re struggling or seeking growth, you’re not alone on your spiritual journey through loss.

These special gatherings are dedicated to honoring and supporting bereaved mothers and fathers. Through moments of remembrance, reflection, and encouragement, we create a space filled with compassion and community. On days that are often tender and challenging, we come together to recognize the strength, love, and resilience of grieving parents.
