Through Operation Safe Sleep, the TEARS Foundation provides education, resources, and support to military families to help reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, including SIDS.
Operation Safe Sleep includes:
1.Free Healthy Baby Classes
Monthly classes provide military families with education on safe sleep practices, infant health, and ways to support their baby’s well-being. Families receive information, resources, light refreshments, and baby items to take home.
2. Emergency Safe Sleep Support
Families experiencing transition, temporary housing, or an urgent need for a safe sleep space may receive a new Pack ’n Play, safe sleep sack, and personalized safe sleep education through TEARS.
3. Safe Sleep Training for Military Professionals
TEARS provides safe sleep and SIDS risk-reduction training for military staff and professionals who support families, helping ensure families receive consistent, evidence-based guidance.
Launched in 2026 with Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State, Operation Safe Sleep is the beginning of a larger vision. With additional funding and support, TEARS hopes to expand this program to military installations across the country— helping more babies sleep safely and start life healthier.
