As the world shudders through the COVID19 pandemic, low-income, newly bereaved families are disproportionately impacted.  Delivery at hospitals exposes them to greater risk of contracting COVID-19, valuable family and community support of gathering together has been deferred because of social distancing, and the financial burden on low-income families to lay their child to rest has been further increased as economic hardships and safety restrictions cause them to choose between housing and food over their precious child. To address this urgent need, TEARS is offering emergency support (food, rent, utility assistance) for those impacted by COVID-19, increasing virtual and one-on-one phone support, and meeting the increased needs of financial assistance. TEARS recognizes that these times are hard on all of us, but together we can support and bring hope and healing to the most vulnerable, the bereaved parent, who has already experienced the most devastating loss a parent can experience.
